Hello everyone,

I was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease five years ago and have since been following a gluten free diet. I have always thought that all gluten free products are wheat free also, but was recently told that it is not true. Does anyone know what gluten free products have wheat in them?

Most know that McCormick spices are free from any gluten products for free flowing. They aren't bad for everyday use, but if you are a gourmet cook or aspire to be more adventurous in your GF cooking you may want to try some higher grade spices and herbs.

I found a place recommended by none other than Alton Brown.

THE SPICE HOUSE

Question asked on their site about any gluten in their products revealed this:

OK, so what is Guar Gum?

Guar gum can best be described as a natural food thickener, similar to locust bean gum, cornstarch or tapioca

flour. Guar gum is said to have significantly more thickening ability

than cornstarch, at a fraction of the cost. This has made guar gum a

popular additive in products such as puddings and ice creams. Until

recently, guar gum was also an ingredient in non-prescription diet pills designed to create a sense of fullness. The dietary suppliment Benefiber is almost 100 percent guar gum.

Just what is Xanthan Gum anyway?

Despite its rather alien-sounding name,

xanthan gum is as natural as any other fermented corn sugar

polysaccharide you can name. Corn syrup, anyone?

Seriously, xanthan gum derives its name from the strain of bacteria used during the fermentation process, Xanthomonas campestris. Xanthomonas campestris is the same bacteria responsible for causing black rot to form on broccoli, cauliflower and other leafy vegetables. The bacteria form a slimy substance which acts as a natural stabilizer ...

Pasta- Rice or Corn?

I have a topic for this new forum.

Pasta- Rice or Corn?

Which do you prefer?

I love the color of the corn pasta, the nice yellow, and the brown rice kind reminds me of whole wheat.

I made some mac and cheese the other night with corn pasta, glutino I

think. And it absorbed most of the cheese sauce. It made it come out

rather, grainy, but OK tasting. I used some raw milk cheese so not sure

if that affected it or not?
