| I saw someone on another forum ask about this but no one seemed to know, so I hope when others join here maybe someone will have an answer.
I had my appendix removed, and my mother and grandmother both had their gall bladders removed. I am wondering if this is any way related to CD?

| Thanks for responding HadassahSukkot, do you know why your brother had his removed? I don't have any siblings on my mothers side so no one to compare to. Have you ever heard of there being any links to CD? I guess since I figured this out, I am now examining my whole life and seeing things I never did before or looked at differently. For instance, I really didn' t pay too much attention to the cramping and bloating, I thought one was due to stress and the pain, well I have always had severe menstrual cramps so these were comparable but not worse. So........ | |

| To be honest Yentl, my brother went to the ER with his appendix about ready to burst. He gave us a real scare. We thought stress too, or maybe that the issues of him not being GF were maybe manifesting in a different way, or he had a hernia (esp since he works as a mechanic with heavy machinery and is being hazed by his coworkers) The doctors were really concerned and the next thing we knew he was scheduled for surgery, so all of us went to the hospital and waited in the ER waiting room with his wife. He seems to be making a step towards eating kosher, but I don't exactly know where he will stand with actually going gluten free any time soon. Maybe if my mom can get him "turned on" to some of the newer ready mixes now available at the local organic stores, he might try something like mac 'n' cheese the GF way, or a veggie lasgana that is GF. If he and the wife get a chance to come visit us here in Germany, one thing is for certain - no gluten is entering the house. I've said the same with DH about his friends coming for a game network party towards the end of the year - I will cook and prep things and buy chips and get salsa and things, but no one is to bring anything into the house (Esp if I can't have control about treyf coming in either)... I'll order meat from Frankfurt and have it sent down long before letting come in. | |

| That's strange, mine was about to burst also. The doctor couldn't diagnose it right away though, I went through all kinds of tests, and was put on a liquid diet. Then after 5-6 days of this they allowed me to eat, and eat I did. I ordered everything on the B'fast menu, waffles, pancakes, cereal, eggs, toast, OJ, even oatmeal I think. I was in the middle of enjoying this when he walked in and told me they were going to operate. My parents were in Germany then too! Also I remember that after the surgery, the anestesiologist came in to visit me. He told me I gave them quite a scare in the OR. They had completed the surgery, and were bandaging me when all of a sudden my BP either rose high or plummeted, (dont' remember which) and I broke out in a rash and my breathing was shallow, and heart rate doing something, and they didn't know what to do, they were going to open me back up! Then somehow someone there ( thank G-d! ) figured it might be the surgical tape used on the bandages, and they removed it and I was OK. They used non allergen tape after that.
He asked me if I knew of this allergy? I told him no, I had never had this before, or trouble with band- aids. I still don't , So I am now wondering if there was some topical reaction happeing and related to CD, and/ or the reason my apendix had to be removed so quickly?
