Very Short Stature Can Be A Sign of Celiac Disease

The symptoms of celiac disease are not always obvious. In my
own case, at various times in my life I was anemic, noticeably underweight, had
chronic infections, chronic indigestion, had chronic mouth sores -- all
problems which I now realize were signs of my untreated celiac disease (and all
of which have disappeared now that I am on a gluten-free diet). Lots of other
celiacs reading this will have similar stories.

The point is, it’s very important to recognize all the
physical issues that might be related to celiac disease, because if the disease
is overlooked and untreated, the long-term consequences are dangerous. For
example, it’s increasingly being recognized that very short stature can be
related to celiac disease. Encouragingly, in some children in whom short
stature is related to celiac disease, a gluten-free diet can improve the
child's final height (not to mention reducing the child's risk for all the side
effects of untreated celiac disease).

I have noticed a lot of people of Celtic or European descent do have this problem, but that those of us from traditional Scandanavian and German countries tend to be tall but really thin, or have issues of looking severely malnourished and with water weight..
The bad thing, doctors just never see it until it presents itself as a problem that can no longer be treated symptom by symptom No

I'm just a few inches shy of 6 feet, but at my sickest I weighed 220lbs... Mostly reproductive issues, packed on weight because my body wasn't digesting it right etc... mouth sores etc...
I've lost down and am right now about 190 with the baby. I was 180 when I got married and was staying right there and in Oct had lost to about 175... finally I'm thin like I was before I got so sick... and thankfully baby is well and growing bigger each week

Hmm, I have Danish/German background and am taller than both my parents. Both me and my mother were very skinny ( before pregnancy) and she was very sickly from a child. I wasn't but until later in life.
