Your gluten got in my peanut butter!

Remember the commercial for resses peanut butter cups where the boy walking up one side of the block had an open jar of PB and was scooping out some and licking it with his finger, and up the other side of the block walks a girl happily munching on her chocolate bar?

When I went thorugh my kitchen months ago to weed out all the offenders, I stupidly let some stay as they were GF, BUT they were opened.

Case in point, a jar of nutella.

There was only a bit left and I happily spread it on a corn cakes with some PB ( that was new) only to visit the library an hour and a half later. Things had been going so good, I haven't gotten contaminated in well over 3 weeks. I am guessing that previous dippings were with glutenous foods like cookies or crackers and even though invisable still left their tell-tale trail behind.

So be warned! Even GF products, like PB, jellys, mayo, mustard, chutney, honey, dressings, etc should be thrown out and new ones started with. You never know!

Yes, this was one of the accidents we had when we first started going GF in my home, and when I moved here to Germany. I accidentally got into gluten from a jar of mayo... that my FIL used which we had brought over to have specifically as GF.

So... thankfully my inlaws get the squeeze jars of Mayo, so when we are over I don't get glutened, and we keep my miracle whip here and it can only be used with an approved utensil when folks are over.

Hidden gluten is so not fun
Or as I say now "Gluten ist gefährlich...für das baby und mich" (Gluten is dangerous for me and the baby)

Yes, gluten reminds me so much all the time (and the hidden especially) of Pasache, and how leaven can be everywhere!
