Heart Issues and Celiac Empty
PostSubject: Heart Issues and Celiac   Heart Issues and Celiac EmptyWed Nov 28, 2007 6:59 pm

Before confirming my diagnosis of CD I was hospitalized with a arrythmia, very elevated BP, and overall mylais. Various tests were done on me, I was told my heart was strong, my other tests looked good, and they could not pinpoint my irregular heart beat. So they but me on a blood thinner and sent me home.

I got worse, and worse till I thought I was dying. No strength, tired continually, as in I would get out of bed after 12-14 hours sleep and only after being up 15 minutes returned to sleep some more. I improved a bit and did well through most of the summer but my diet was impacted by a constant influx of organic veggies and fruits, and many tomatoes ( lycopene) and spinach. I was constantly feeling the urge to eat dairy products and the sicker I was the more I got this craving.

I have finally gotten back to my doctor and he has ordered a blood workup and tests to test my thyroid, as well as a CD test. I have been GF ( mostly) for about 4 months so I doubt it will show up. But from all indications that is what it appears to be.

My relatives are from England and the Netherlands on one side of the family and I hear that it's pretty predominant there.

My heart had been doing well, I hadn't felt the irregularities, except for a few times, but nothing near what it had been. I did experience it right before seeing the doctor and told him about it. He ordered a EKG right there in his office. It looked like some demented mountain range. There would be two regular, then one that jumped all the way up, then maybe 5 reg and jump, and throughout the whole test. This did not put me at ease.

My BP was around 135/82 I think, not too bad but higher than before, but then again I was very upset with my husband when we got there, so that can account for some of it. Also they didn't record my weight proberly when I first went there and it looked like I had gained 50 pounds! Rather I have actually lost weight, as all my pants don't fit, in fact I can take them off without unbuttoning or unzipping. Wink

But this thing with my heart still puzzles me. I am looking around to see if there is a corelation with Celiac.

I stopped at Borders the other day and found numberous CD books, I bought one for now but perused the others. In one, ( don't remember the title) one of the symptoms of CD was irregular heart beat!

IN fact I think of the dozen or so symptoms they had, I had all but two ( and one was weight loss and I fell on the other side).

So I am hoping someone will see this and post what they may know, meanwhile I am gathering all the info I can find.

Food allergies, as distinguished from the above list, are caused
by an immune reaction to a protein that for other people is
usually harmless. This immune reaction causes some of the body's
cells to release histamine and other substances that cause the
allergic symptoms. Many different organ systems can be affected,
producing symptoms such as hives, itching, rashes, swelling of the
face, hands, or feet, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea,
and asthma. Severe cases can involve anaphylaxis shock -- extreme
difficulty in breathing, heart irregularities, a drop in blood
pressure, and, if untreated, death.

GF talk about skipped beats, really sound like what I have. I don't know what brought this on though, the only thing the soup had in it was butternut squash, pumpkin, a little onion and cream, and some curry powder ( GF) and ginger. I had this also on Shabbat and no problem, I think it must have to do with something gluten got in there.
