| I have been drinking non fat milk for quite awhile, first I started with a kind that doubles the protein and calcium, thinking this was good, with no fat. Then I read where you shouldn't be drinking milk with the fat removed, I don't remember the 'why' now. Then awhile back I heard about the Vitamin D nightmare, that what is added to milk is derived mostly from pigs. I just came across this article and am seriously thinking of going off all dairy together, I am really a dairy queen though, love cheese, ice cream, real organic butter, etc. But after reading this...................... Does it ever end? http://www.notmilk.com/milkinfo.txtThere are many scary things about milk ,This is what caught my eye concerning us. **** Crohn's Disease - Quote :
- Mycobacterium paratuberculosis causes a bovine disease called
"Johne's."
Cows diagnosed with Johne's Disease have diarrhea, and heavy fecal shedding of bacteria. This bacteria becomes cultured in milk, and is not destroyed by pasteurization. Occasionally, the milk-borne bacteria will begin to grow in the human host, and irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn's results.

| **** Kosher
Is cow's milk and dairy "Kosher"? Consider this:
"D-3 always is derived from an animal. The sunlight reaction that converts 7-dehydrocholesterol to vitamin D-3 is a 'pure' chemical reaction that occurs in your skin in certain cells."
"The provitamin known as 7-dehydrocholesterol is extracted and isolated from the skins of mammals and purified." (Marian Herbert of the Vitamin D Workshop U of C)
Vitamin D-3 can come from four different sources:
Pig skin, sheep skin, raw fish liver, and pig brains. Most of the time, Vitamin D-3 is extracted from pig skin and sold to dairy processors.
Short answer to "is milk kosher" - probably not.

| I do have a few sources locally where I can get raw milk and even goats milk but after reading all that , I doubt that is healthy too. Unless I raised these animals myself and had them tested, AND milked them myself to assure of cleanliness in the milking procedure............................... | |

| Back Home I asked at Publix and had to put a call in to their main offices. Their Vit D in the 'non fat' to the whole milk is derived from wool from sheep. I think I asked at Wright's Dairy (A farm near Birmingham, AL that supplies all varieties of milk and icecream!!!) - and theirs was also from sheep wool. Their milk was the only one as it was not homogenized, to not make me ill off of it. Dry milk does the same to me as the "regular". My body sees the homogenized milk and does the same with it as gluten. I found one brand here, though I don't remember if we asked or not, as getting kosher certified milk out this way would be so costly I would have to stop cooking breads, and when we asked - they don't come in a non-homogenized format here... which means I'd have to shake it off completely... | |
